Today's Weather

Maui started off with some light morning showers, which stopped at about 9am, and led to sunny skies all day long. The winds were light from the southerly direction, which is becoming a trend this winter. Usually the winds are blowing from the North East direction at a steady 15-20mph, perfect for professional windsurfers. This winter however, La Nina seems to be throwing off the typical Maui weather. We will have to wait and see!

The waves are up, and the surfers are really enjoying the glassy conditions. The large waves have also caused some shifts in the sand, making steep drop offs in some areas. Below are some pictures of Paia Bay:


Below is a picture of a gecko that recently showed up on Maui. This is an invasive species that most likely hitched a ride on plant shipments. They are very colorful, and mellow, but it's sad to see so many foreign and introduced species come into the islands, some which cause devastation to many native Hawaiian plants and animals.
